McGinnis sets school record at Carrollton; Kincaid wins hurdles

CARROLLTON – On April 24, Kaden McGinnis completed a quest. Competing that afternoon at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational, the Hardin-Central junior set the school record for the boys 200-meter dash with his time of 22.77 seconds. The old record, 22.96, set by Jerod Smith, had stood since 1999. “It’s been a solid record, hard to beat,” McGinnis said, noting he has chased the record all season, he said. “Finally got it accomplished.” To Hardin-Central varsity track and field coach Andrew Watson, it seemed almost inevitable McGinnis would break the record. “He’s been kind of creeping up on that record,” Watson said. “We knew he was fast enough to get it done. It was just getting him to put a full race together and run his best race, and he did that today.” McGinnis did so when it was cool and windy – conditions many runners would consider far from ideal.
