RICHMOND – Tadan McCoy has some studying to do. McCoy, a Richmond senior, has signed his letter of intent to play football at Ottawa University in Kansas. The Braves have already sent him their playbook, he said. “There’s a lot more” inside than in his Richmond High School playbook, McCoy said. McCoy signed with the NAIA program Feb. 8 in the Richmond High School gym. He was among four Richmond student-athletes who signed letters to play collegiate sports that day, including three football players. Based on Richmond varsity coach Nick Persell’s comments moments before the signing, McCoy can handle the gridiron-related homework. “He’s no stranger to extra work and spending … extra time, whether it be on the field or in the weight room. … As coaches, we talk about those things a lot – about … (how) hard work will lead you where you want to go – and … he’s a real testament to that, because it was his hard work that got him here,” Persell said.
