A losing skid to Lafayette County of Higginsville in varsity 11-man football is over for Richmond, thanks in part to a near-perfect passing performance by Spartans quarterback Jacob Lieberknecht. Unofficially, the junior signal-caller completed 11 of 13 attempts for 321 yards and six touchdowns to help the Spartans crush the Huskers 61-7 Sept. 26 at Richmond. It was Richmond’s first win over Lafayette County since 2020, when the Spartans romped 54-34 Sept. 25 at Higginsville, Missouri State High School Activities Association records state. As Richmond coach Nick Persell pointed out, Lieberknecht’s two incompletions were dropped passes. “I thought Jacob put the ball on the money all night long and the receivers did a great job after the catch,” Persell said.
