Hoopsters hit links, help expand Richmond roster

RICHMOND – Half of Richmond’s boys golf team made a quick transition from trying to sink two- and three-point buckets to trying to sink putts. As of March 14, there were six student-athletes out for golf, coach Murray Dennis said. They included three members of Richmond’s Class 4 state quarterfinal boys basketball team – senior Collin Cromley, and juniors Thomas Murphy and Donivin Williams. All three are new to team golf. But Cromley said he has golfed outside school. In addition, his father, Justin Cromley, plays. Cromley said that while growing up he played rounds with his father. “This is my final year (of high school) and I’ve always wanted to play golf, but I’ve been playing baseball,” Cromley said after practice last week at Shirkey Golf Course. “So I was like, ‘Well, this is my last year, this is my last chance,’ so I decided to come out.” An “awesome” first day helped make Cromley happy with his choice, he said. “It’s not a sport that you (have) got to deal with stuff all…
