Hogan in familiar territory as Richmond’s new grappling coach

RICHMOND – The area wresting scene and coaching Richmond wrestlers are nothing new to first-year Spartans varsity coach Cody Hogan. Hogan is a 2007 Richmond High graduate. And before his most recent teaching and coaching stint at Marshall, he was a Richmond assistant coach and substitute teacher, he said during a Nov. 22 practice in the high school’s multipurpose building. He also coached many of the current Spartans when they were in youth league wrestling, he said. “I knew what I was coming back to and what I had,” Hogan said. Hogan had about half of his boys roster because of Richmond’s run in the Class 2 state football playoffs. There also were two girls, Heavenly McPherson and Miranda Peach. With the influx of football players following Richmond’s 21-20 state semifinal road loss to Lamar, Hogan estimates he will work with between 20 and 25 wrestlers.
