Golf season ends for ’Cats; Comstock top 20 for Park

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Another Orrick golf season is finished. The Bearcats ended their season Monday at the Class 1 District 4 Tournament at Excelsior Springs Golf Course. Jacob McElwee, a first-year high schooler, led Orrick by shooting a 126 (+54) for the 18-hole, par-72 competition, finishing in a tie with Princeton’s Noel Schreffler and Kansas City Lutheran’s Noah Walz for 44th among 72 finishers. Jeffrey Singleton, also a first-year high schooler, shot a 158 (+86) to finish 64th. A third Orrick golfer withdrew because of heat-related issues, coach Mitch Comstock stated Tuesday via email. “It was a very tough day for everyone and I was proud of how they played,” Comstock wrote. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association regulations, the top four players from the top two teams, Gallatin and Kansas City Lutheran, qualified for the Class 1 state tournament, slated for May 16 and 17 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
