’Dawgs gauge opponent, forge friendships with practice

Hardin-Central’s second, and final, combined summer practice with Orrick in varsity girls basketball was an eye-opener for Hardin-Central coach Tommy Burton. In more ways than one. Helping to oversee the July 13 session in the Orrick High School gym gave Burton an idea or two. “I liked it,” he said. “It was a lot different. We got to see … a different program’s pace and drills. (There are) probably a few things I’m going to take home and ‘steal’ myself.” The session, which included half-court and full-court scrimmaging, also revealed to Burton the caliber of team his Bulldogs will face on Jan. 26, 2024, when they’re slated to play Orrick in a girls-boys varsity doubleheader at Orrick. “Orrick’s not going to be a team to blink an eye at,” he commented. “They’re going to be pretty good this year.” Specifically, Burton is impressed with Orrick’s ball movement.
