Cavanah agrees to fly with Cards
RICHMOND – Layne Cavanah will continue catching passes on the football field.
Cavanah, a Richmond High School senior and the son of Hardin-Central Superintendent Trey Cavanah, signed a letter of intent to play wide receiver at William Jewell College. He was among four Richmond student-athletes who signed letters during a Feb. 8 ceremony in the high school gym.
The private, Liberty-based NCAA Division II school also is where Richmond varsity coach Nick Persell graduated. Persell told the crowd he “was pretty excited to hear” about Cavanah committing to go there.
“Layne’s certainly worked hard (for) four years to earn this right, and I’m excited for him and his future and (that I) get a chance to go watch some Cardinal football again,” Persell said.
Persell’s history did not sway Cavanah to attend William Jewell, but “it was cool that he was there,” Cavanah said.
“He had connections there,” Cavanah said. “He knows a lot about the college.”
