Buchanan picks gridiron over track, signs with Benedictine
ORRICK – Senior Blake Buchanan had a choice: pursue football or track and field in college after graduating this spring from Orrick High School.
Buchanan chose football.
On March 25 in his high school gym, Buchanan signed his letter of intent to play football at Benedictine College, an NAIA-affiliated Catholic school in Atchison, Kansas. The short ceremony included a few words from Matt Brownsberger, athletic director.
“It’s always a happy day for us whenever one of our student-athletes signs and uses sports as a tool to further their education and to have an opportunity to get an education and go on to a career past that,” Brownsberger said.
A top-three Class 1 state finisher last year in the boys javelin in track, and a quarterback/defensive back in 8-man football, Buchanan picked football to help further his education for multiple reasons.
