Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Kirk Thacker and his Bearcats got defensive this week. Or rather, they focused on defense for their latest team camp. Specifically, they worked on adding a defense during the four-day camp, which concluded Thursday. The Bearcats inserted the defense “because our defense wasn’t outstanding last year at all,” Thacker said. Unlike their 2022 defense, the Bearcats’ latest system is “more of an attacking defense,” according to Thacker, who cracked that the defense is one he “stole from another state.” “We’ve got two or three guys in full attack mode, while we’ve got two or three guys that are slow-playing and making sure … (there are) no cutbacks and checking things to make sure … (there are) … no reverse bootlegs or anything that might surprise us,” he said.
