Bearcats explode for 37 runs, join record books with victory
KINGSVILLE – Orrick’s first win this varsity softball season was one for the record books.
With their 37-23 April 21 road win over Kingsville, the Bearcats claimed the fifth spot on the state’s all-time list for most runs scored by one team in a game. Galena had held that spot since April 8, 2003, by scoring 36 runs against Hollister, Missouri State High School Activities Association records state. Holcomb holds the record for most runs with 44, set on April 16, 2018, with a 44-6 road rout of Risco.
The 60 combined runs is third on the state’s all-time list for most total runs in a game. Tri-County and Pattonsburg hold the top spot with 71, set on Oct. 1, 1999, followed by Worth County and Nodaway with 70, set on April 24, 2009, MSHSAA records state.
Orrick overcame a 12-0 first-inning deficit to get the victory, coach Zach McGill stated Tuesday via email.
