Avila persuades Farnan to continue gridiron career

Kail Farnan’s entry into college football is similar to his entry into high school football. Farnan, who’ll graduate in May from Richmond High School, formally signed his letter of intent Feb. 27 in the high school gym to play for Avila University, a Kansas City-based NAIA program. The senior acknowledged he hadn’t planned to continue playing football when his prep career ended in October 2023. “And then, I just kind of got this (offer) and started thinking about it,” Farnan said. Coincidentally, Farnan wasn’t sure he wanted to play football when he started high school, he and Richmond coach Nick Persell recalled. Farnan credited Colby Bowers, a former player at Richmond and current Richmond assistant coach, with persuading him to try it. “He talked about playing with my uncle ( Alex Luman) and all the friends he made on the team and how you only have one chance to play in your life,” Farnan said.
