KINGSVILLE – A 31-game losing streak is over for Orrick in varsity girls basketball. The Bearcats broke the streak Tuesday night by edging Kingsville 33-29 on the road in non-conference play. Orrick’s skid began in February 2020 with a season-ending loss to Hardin-Central in districts, and it continued with a 0-18 campaign last season and an 0-12 start this season. “The girls played hard,” coach Zach McGill stated Wednesday via email. “We battled all night. We were never down more than 7 points. We came out in the second (half) motivated.” The coaching staff is proud of the Bearcats for their achievement, McGill stated. “It’s been a rough go these past few years, and these girls deserve this win,” he wrote. Laci Smith paced the Bearcats with 13 points, followed by Janie Kilgore with eight. At press time, Orrick sought win No. 2 Wednesday in a home non-conference meeting with Penney of Hamilton.
