Dear Editor, In response to the March 25th article regarding the Henrietta Overpass. Just east of Ray County, Chariton County provides us with an example of infrastructure improvements and how to go about funding it.
As part of a state funded $50 million program specifically designated for rail safety improvements along the Marceline subdivision, Chariton County is collaborating with BSNF rail and MoDOT on a $6.5 million deal. Chariton County is closing several “passive” crossings and upgraded several “active” crossings. The funds are being used to redesign, grade and pave county roads, as well as building entirely new access paths.
The state has the authority to close crossings that have been flagged as dangerous anyway. Chariton County is making a deal and collecting on an unprecedented funding opportunity. Chariton County is also getting four bridges replaced and one deck on a bigger bridge resurfaced through what is called the Northwest Bridge Bundle. This is being funded…
