Patty Sue Lyon, 87, of Carrollton passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. Patty was born Aug. 17, 1936, in Mosby, the daughter of Oren Clarence and Frances Audra (Clevenger) Lee. She was united in marriage to Harry Glendon Lyon of Carrollton on Aug. 29, 1953. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2017.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Sue O’Neal of Carrollton; and three sons, Lloyd Glen (friend, Christal) Lyon, Ronald “Ronnie” Wayne (friend, Marcia) Lyon and Larry Joe (Pam) Lyon, all of Carrollton.

Other survivors include 10 grandchildren: Amy (Gary) Hughes, Stacy (Steve) Kretzer, Susie (Matt) Allen, Brandon (Brandy) O’Neal, Matt (friend, Andrea) Lyon, Jason (friend, Chrissy) Lyon, Bobbie Jo (Kevin) Pack, Christopher (Stacey) Lyon, Dustin (Mary) Lyon and Brianne (Matt) Brown. Still other survivors include her great-grandchildren: Josh, Andrew, Caden, Trinity, Audrey, Bryce, Brooke, Madysen, Logan, Maddox, Raegan, Ellie, Jacob, Rhylee, Jessica, Patrick, Katie, Keegan (Shayna), Anakin, Caylin, Jerzi, Tyler, Collin and Jack; and great-great-grandson, Daxton.

She also is survived by two brothers, Jesse (Debbie) Lee and Jerry Wayne Lee, both of Excelsior Springs; and a sister, Carol Kathleen Proffitt of Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Billie Dean Adams and an infant sister; sister- in-law, Bonnie Ann Lee; and two brothers-in-law, Doc Adams and Paul E. Proffitt.

Patty grew up in the area of her birth, first in Mosby, Polo, then Richmond, where she graduated from high school. In her early years, while in the Richmond area, she worked for Blair’s Furniture and Ray-Carroll Co-Op.

After her marriage and moving to the Carrollton area, in addition to raising her family, she owned and operated her own ceramic shop. She also worked as an adult caregiver for the state of Missouri for 20 years and managed two group homes in Carrollton.

Patty enjoyed gardening, painting ceramics, cooking, traveling and trips to the boat. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Beaty/McCroskie Creek Cemetery, the H.E.L.P. Services Cancer Fund or the Carroll County YMCA. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 6, at McCroskie Creek Baptist Church, west of Carrollton, with visitation beginning at noon, followed by the services at 2 p.m. Burial was to be in Beaty/McCroskie Creek Cemetery. Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
