New 911 center prompts radio system debate

Before dispatchers can move into Ray County’s new 911 center, officials must decide whether to relocate decades-old radio equipment or invest in a new communications system designed to serve the county for years to come. That decision emerged as a key topic during a recent board meeting as members received an update on the new dispatch center and reviewed several items related to the agency’s operations and future communications capabilities. Wireless service provider Commenco’s Director of Government Services Bryce Heisey outlined several options for transitioning the county’s Very High Frequency (VHF) radio infrastructure to the new facility, including relocating existing equipment or building an entirely new system.
