Ex-NFL lineman helps with training future Spartans

Richmond varsity coach Nick Persell had a new volunteer helping him run this year’s version of the Future Spartan Youth Football Camp – a former pro player and current minister. Colin Brown, a fifth-round NFL draft pick taken by Kansas City whose career included a stint with Buffalo, was among those who worked with campers in grades K-6. Brown, the pastor at the Richmond First United Methodist Church, said he learned about the May 12-14 camp and expressed his interest in assisting. “I just thought it’d be awesome to come out and do it,” he said as the camp was concluding at Spartan Stadium. “Fortunately, Coach Persell said I could come out and do it. Seemed like a great way for me to get out of the office and out here into the good weather.” Brown enjoyed the experience. One reason was the way the camp was structured. “They did something a little bit different each day,” he said. “So the kids all seemed to have a blast.” Those activities included playing twohand touch football…
