Richmond boys golfers are headed to state

For the first time in more than 20 years, Richmond is sending a boys high school golf team to state competition. The Spartans, who’ve produced individual qualifiers during those 20-plus years, are set to compete in the Class 3 state tournament, slated for May 18-19 at the Sedalia Country Club. Richmond secured its spot at state by taking second at the Class 3 District 4 Tournament, held May 6 at Shirkey Golf Course. The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) allows the top two teams and top 13 individuals not on those teams to advance from districts to state, with exceptions made for ties for final qualifying spots. Qualifying as a team reflects how dedicated the Spartans are to the sport, Richmond boys coach Brandon Rittmiller said shortly after the district awards ceremony.
