County leaders call on community to protect children

Blue clothing, ringing bells and a line of children’s shoes placed in silence marked a sobering moment at the Ray County Courthouse, where community members gathered to raise awareness about child abuse and the role every adult plays in prevention. The gathering marked the county’s recognition of ChildAbuseAwareness Month, following a proclamation signed by the Ray County Commission encouraging residents to support efforts to protect children and strengthen families. The event brought together local officials, community members and partner agencies in the courthouse courtyard for a shared moment of reflection and awareness. Organizers invited residents to wear blue as a visible sign of support, building on broader efforts throughout April, including illuminating the courthouse in blue and encouraging participation from schools and local organizations.
