At last, Richmond varsity baseball coach Zach McGill and his Spartans are on their home field.

The Spartans opened the season with six straight road games, going 2-4. That stretch included three games in a weekend tournament at Odessa.

Richmond went 1-2 at Odessa, opening March 27 with a 7-4 victory over Warsaw. On March 28, the Spartans fell to the host school 7-2 and Father Tolton Catholic 1310.

On Tuesday, the Spartans played their home opener, facing Lexington at Southview Park in Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division play. They were scheduled to continue MRVC East play Thursday on the road against Lafayette County of Higginsville, followed by three straight home games.

Here’s a look at the Richmond baseballers, provided courtesy of answers to a questionnaire, as submitted by McGill … Coaching bio in brief: McGill is in his third year as head coach. He also has served four years as an assistant coach at Richmond.

Assistant coaches: Danny Sisson, Trent Thompson.
