Gottsch connects community with county history
The Ray County Museum offers opportunities to explore artifacts and exhibits ranging from a recreated kitchen to military displays reflecting the people and events shaping the county’s history.
For nearly eight years, museum administrator Cathy Gottsch has helped keep those exhibits organized, preserved and accessible. Since taking the role in July 2018, she has overseen donations, coordinated tours, managed displays and worked to keep the museum connected to the community it represents.
Gottsch did not originally plan to take on the role at the museum. Before becoming administrator, she had spent several years helping former museum administrator Linda Emley with projects and historical programs, often volunteering her time because of a shared interest in local history and the Civil War.
When Emley unexpectedly passed away after struggling with health issues, Gottsch said the loss was difficult for many people in the community who had worked closely with her.
