School board approves calendar change, meal contract

The Richmond R-XVI Board of Education approved a change to the district’s 2026–27 academic calendar during a meeting after administrators discovered students would otherwise have been scheduled to attend school on Good Friday. The revision removes a previously scheduled day off on Feb. 12 and moves that break to March 26, which falls on Good Friday in 2027. Board members approved the adjustment to correct the oversight for students, families and staff. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Trey Cavanah told board members the district had originally approved a calendar that mirrored the current school year but did not account for the Good Friday holiday. “I have to fall on my sword here. I made a mistake,” said Cavanah. “I didn’t take into consideration Good Friday.” Board members also voted to extend the district’s food service contract with Opaa!
