FLORENCE OPAL WALLACE
The Richmond News, Feb. 13, 2026
Florence Opal Wallace, 86, of Richmond passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at Liberty Hospital.
Florence was born July 31, 1939, in Ray County, the daughter of Robert George “Cecil” and Pearl (Sloan) Lusby.
She was united in marriage to Vernon Karl of Richmond in August 1957. He preceded her in death in July 1979.
Later, she married Jackie “Jack” Wallace of Sheldon in August 1980. He preceded her in death in August 2016.
Survivors include one son, Steve (Rosalyn) Karl; and two daughters, Elaine (Eddie) Pedockie and Terri (Steve) Butts. She also is survived by six grandchildren: Keith (Amy) McMillan, Matthew (Jennifer) McMillian, Sierra Karl, Ty (Caroline) Karl, Amanda Karl and Amber Karl. Other survivors include 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Rice and Mary (Bruce) Mills; and a Florence Wallace
host of other family members and friends.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduated from Orrick High School. In addition to dedicating herself to raising her family, she worked outside the home at the IGA grocery store and Apple Market in Richmond, and at the Ray County Courthouse in the Assessor’s Office. Through her work and daily interactions, she formed countless friendships and was truly loved by all who knew her.
Florence had a vibrant personality and never met a stranger. She loved to read and enjoyed exercising with her friends at the Eagleton Center. Known for her “gift of gab,” she cherished conversation and connection, whether visiting with friends, chatting with someone she ran into around town or making a trip to Walmart just to catch up with the people there.
She was of the Christian faith and a faithful member of Richmond Christian Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond Christian Chapel. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.
Graveside services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Richmond Memory Gardens, with Rev. Bill Purcell to officiate.
