Donald “Don” Ray Holloway, 89, of Richmond passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at his home. Don was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Richmond, the son of Johnnie L. and Mary Frances (Hayes) Holloway.
He was united in marriage to Patty Louise Bunch of Richmond on Sept. 26, 1959. She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2019. Survivors include his three children, Karen L. Johnston of Richmond, Terry (Melissa) Holloway of Richmond and Kathy D. Higgins (Gabrielle Kirkpatrick) of Indianola, Iowa. Other survivors include seven grandchildren: Nathan (Tara) Quick, Katie (Chris) Bushong, Jeremy (Misti) Holloway, Madison Holloway, Hunter Holloway, Amber (Ross) Carner and Blake Higgins. He also is survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Brook (Cody) Still, Kennedy Quick, Adia Noble, Avarie Noble, Grayson Quick, Gavin Quick, Mason Bushong, Dayton (Kaili) Bushong, Maddox Holloway, Evelyn Carner and Rhett Carner. Additional survivors include six great-great-grandchildren: Harper Still, Maverick Still, Hendrick Kirkpatrick, Hadley Kirkpatrick, Harrison Kirkpatrick and one on the way, Jettsyn James Bushong.
His brother, Melvin G. (Mary) Holloway; and numerous nieces and nephews survive as well. In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold V. Holloway, Johnnie L. Holloway Jr., Lester E. Holloway and Gary D. Holloway; sister, Marie Holloway-Bates; and son-in-law, Jim Johnston.
Don was raised and educated in the area of his birth. After completing his education, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Upon returning home from military service, he began working as a postal carrier before starting his long-term career with Ford Motor Co. Don dedicated more than 30 years of service to Ford and was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 249.
In his free time, Don enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and time spent with those he loved most. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many rounds on the course with family and friends. He also cherished time spent at Lake Pomme de Terre, where he loved boating, tubing and making memories at the lake with his grandchildren and family.
Don also enjoyed a good game of pitch and the camaraderie that came with it. In addition, he enjoyed his outings to Daddy’s 10-13 Diner.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. We find comfort in knowing Dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared and the memories we will cherish forever.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Richmond Memory Gardens, with military honors provided by the Army and Ray County Veterans. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
