RHS boys fall short in fifth-place game

Richmond varsity boys basketball coach Brent Behler liked the grit he saw from his Spartans Jan. 16 in their finale of the Lawson Invitational Tournament. Trailing Penney of Hamilton 31-17 at halftime, Richmond chipped away during the third quarter and was within single digits entering the fourth quarter. Time, however, ran out on the Spartans, who fell 63-61 in the fifth-place game. “I don’t think we had that grit earlier in the season,” Behler said. “When we got down, we kind of just got down. And we’ve let games escape us all year. We’re young, we have a lot of inexperience, a lot of new faces, a lot of hiccups to work through. We had a tough schedule at the beginning; and honestly, we’re just trying to find ourselves – to play as a team. “And tonight, our fight was good. We didn’t give up.
