County reviews Red Cross certification proposal
Ray County commissioners are considering a proposal to certify the Eagleton Center as a Red Cross shelter following recent emergency power upgrades.
Kenneth Kenyon with Emergency Management told commissioners the recent installation of a generator at the Eagleton Center now makes the building eligible for certification as an official Red Cross shelter.
“That is the next step,” said Kenyon. “If we get certified ahead of time, they might store 10 or 15 cots, some of the paperwork and a few other things. We could have it operating within 24 hours.”
Kenyon noted he had begun working with a Red Cross staff member on the certification process and copies of the Red Cross agreement had already been provided to the commission.
“When you get time, go over them and answer what questions you can and then get it back to me,” stated Kenyon.
He added if the county moves forward, the shelter would be able to serve dozens of displaced families in the event of ice storms or other disasters.
