Quick tops 1,000 career points

With 5 minutes, 2 seconds left in Richmond’s Dec. 5 home opener with Winnetonka, senior Nolan Quick did something he’s often done during his varsity boys basketball career: He sank a threepoint shot. But this three-pointer was different from the others. By making the bucket during the 71-42 loss, he reached 1,000 career points. The game clock stopped at 5:00 as retired Richmond News sports editor and public address announcer Russ Green shared the milestone and the crowd cheered. Quick knew he was within 13 points of reaching the milestone as the Spartans prepared to face Winnetonka, he said afterward. Still, he tried to not think much about it. “I was just trying to act like it was another game,” he said. “I was just trying to focus on getting the win.” Spurred by his business-as-usual approach, Quick finished with a teamleading 21 points, giving him 1,008 for his career.
