Richmond pushes Carrollton to limit in regular-season finale

On Oct. 16, Richmond did something no other school had done this varsity volleyball season: It took Carrollton to five sets.

Richmond edged the visiting Trojans 2520 the first set of the best-of-five Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division match – also Richmond’s annual Pink Out match to raise funds and awareness for fighting breast cancer. Carrollton answered by taking the next two sets, 2521 and then 25-22. The Spartans cruised to a 25-13 win in the fourth set to force a tiebreaker, which Carrollton won 15-11.

“My seniors and my girls played some of the best volleyball they’ve played all season,” Richmond assistant coach Katelyn Jeffers said. “And I feel like we came out winning tonight, regardless of the outcome.”

Carrollton had been taken to four sets eight times before facing Richmond in the regular-season finale for both schools, Missouri State High School Activities Association records state. The Trojans, who finished the regular season 17-7 overall and 7-3 in the MRV…
