Roundabout proposed to improve Route D and U.S. 69 traffic
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) recently hosted a second public meeting at Lawson City Hall to gather feedback on plans for a new roundabout at the intersection of Route D and U.S. Route 69 in Clay County.
The open-house style meeting allowed residents to review conceptual layouts, view detour maps and talk with project staff about traffic flow, construction timing, and safety improvements. Those unable to attend in person can still submit comments online through Oct. 23.
According to MoDOT, traffic volumes at the intersection have steadily increased, particularly during morning and evening peak hours. The agency’s analysis also showed limited sight distance south of the intersection, prompting the need for changes that improve visibility and reduce crash risk. After reviewing crash data, access to nearby businesses, and earlier community input, MoDOT determined a roundabout was the safest and most efficient option.
