A debate over the future of the Lexington Road bridge in Henrietta has left Ray County officials facing multi-million-dollar choices that could determine how farmers, commuters and even emergency vehicles move through the area for years to come. Three possibilities were outlined by engineers from Great River Engineering during a recent commission meeting. The first would replace the bridge with a similar two-lane structure at a cost of $9.6 million. The second option, at a cost of $8.4 million, would build a simplified two-lane version without a pedestrian path. Completely demolishing the bridge was presented as the third option, at a cost of about $570,000. “There’s the existing 700-foot bridge there over two different railroad companies, a few different access roads,” explained Project Engineer Zach Olivas.
