A Ray County case involving allegations of sodomy has been reset for trial after the previously scheduled date was cancelled, keeping the accused in custody as proceedings stretch into a seventh year since the first report. Juan-David Gutierrez, 33, is charged with first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy and second- degree sodomy. He recently appeared in custody before Seventh Judicial Circuit Judge Timothy Jon Flook in Ray County Circuit Court. Flook set the case for a four-day jury trial beginning at 9 a.m. July 13, 2026. The trial had originally been scheduled for Sept. 29, 2025, but that date, along with hearings set for Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, were cancelled. However, court documents do not list a reason for the cancellation. Gutierrez will appear next for a status hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2025, followed by a pre-trial conference at 1 p.m. on June 12, 2026.
