Ray County weighs fleet leases, radio needs
Ray County officials are grappling with keeping the sheriff’s department equipped and reliable, weighing fleet leases, radio shortages and even converting jail space to handle more 24-hour holds.
Enterprise Fleet Manager Regina Lindell and Ray County Sheriff’s Office command staff, including Sheriff Gary Blackwell, Major Tom Noon and Captain Amy Sisson, met with commissioners to review options for rotating patrol vehicles. Lindell detailed side-by-side projections comparing a county purchase plan with Enterprise’s lease cycle.
“What I can tell you is just the big picture,” said Lindell. “I’m not here to promise you that this is going to be grandiose, high-dollar savings. The long and short of it is that the plans are really close together. I would even consider an estimate of $38,000 in savings over the course of this 10-year period to be pretty much break-even.”
