Tradition continues with O’Dell’s first win
Orrick continued a football tradition after its 50-30 season-opening win over Northland Christian, but with a twist.
Following the Aug. 29 varsity 8-man home victory, the Bearcats tolled an old school bell, as other triumphant Orrick football teams have done. For some time, as Orrick fans will recall, the bell had been in a fenced-in area near the schoolhouse. After defeating the Trailblazers, however, the Bearcats tolled the bell near the Simmons Field sign, located in the southeast corner of the football field.
“Luckily, the school and the booster club came together and were able to move it over here by the Simmons Field sign,” coach Matt O’Dell said.
Tolling the bell also celebrated O’Dell’s first win as a head coach. O’Dell expected to savor the win for a few moments.
“It’s probably come in, celebrate for a couple hours with the guys, but then, we’re jumping right into film breakdown and getting prepared for next week,” he said.
