Board selects contractor for 911 center, weighs power system options
Ray County 911 board members selected Centric Construction Group LLC as the contractor for the new 911 facility following extensive discussion over qualifications, subcontractors and costs.
The decision came during a recent special meeting, where bids were reviewed and evaluated. WSKF Architects, which is managing the project, recommended Centric as the low bidder at $5,868,152. Other bids ranged from just over $6 million to $7.2 million.
Architect representatives noted Centric is a mid-sized Kansas City firm that has been expanding into public safety construction.
“I haven’t personally worked with them, but I’ve never heard anything bad about them,” explained Dalyn Novak of WSKF Architects. “I do think they’re the low bid because they are trying to get into the public safety market.”
Board members weighed the recommendation against Crossland Construction, which bid about $140,000 higher but has a more extensive history with public safety projects, including other 911 centers.
