County officials hear plan for new disability services building

Plans to expand day programs and services for people with developmental disabilities in Ray County took center stage as commissioners heard about a building project, which leaders say is urgently needed to meet demand. Officials from the Ray County Board of Services for the Developmentally Disabled described its proposal to construct a new facility on property already owned on North Thornton Street. The project is still in early stages, but Director of DD Services Lori Myers told commissioners the existing building is overcapacity and families in the community are struggling to find care. “We are planning to put a building up at the 601 North Thornton property and with that happening, we need to move a sewer line because it runs right smack to the middle of the property.
