Weather, food, friendship combine for near-perfect day
Aug. 2 was a near-perfect day for me.
That morning, newspaper colleagues Miranda Jamison (a.k.a., “MJ”) and Micah Dillman (a.k.a., “Micafer”), and I visited Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. If you follow pro football, then you probably know that’s where the Kansas City Chiefs have held their annual summer training camp for more than a decade. We decided we’d go, in part, so we could share our memories of our trip on a soon-to-be-published episode of “Ray County Voices,” the podcast series the Richmond News produces in partnership with its sister newspaper, The Excelsior Springs Standard.
It was a blast! The enjoyment started with the trip from Excelsior Springs, where we had agreed to gather to carpool, to the practice fields, located near Craig Field at Spratt Memorial Stadium. Introvert that I am, I often stink at casual conversation. But around MJ and Micafer, I felt at ease. We had some laughs and covered many topics. A few of them were even sportsrelated.
