Aggies start camp with speech from coaching legend

Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) varsity 8-man football coach Andrew Watson brought in a Hardin-Central coaching legend to help kick off the Aggies’ last week of offseason team activities. On Monday, just before the Aggies began running through drills on the practice field at Hardin-Central, Gary O’Neal spoke for about 10 minutes. O’Neal coached Hardin-Central’s 11man varsity program from 1976 to 2003, leading it to Class 1A state titles in 1980 and 1987. And as Watson pointed out to his players, NHC’s home stadium at Hardin-Central is named after O’Neal. “Every year, I try to have at least one guest speaker – either a former player or coach from the two schools speak,” Watson said. “When I was thinking about this year and who we wanted to come talk, obviously, there’s no one better you can get than the guy the stadium’s named after. So I gave Coach O’Neal a phone call, and thankfully, he was able to come speak to our boys and give them some good insight.” In recognition of the…
