JH joins varsity for FB camp
Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Matt O’Dell made a change for the Bearcats’ third straight week of offseason team camp sessions.
This week, the varsity Bearcats were joined by members of Orrick’s junior high program. It gave the junior high squad chances to don helmets and shoulder pads, and “get visual reps seeing how our high school squad does practice,” O’Dell said Monday on Orrick’s practice field.
Upperclassmen Xavior Gaskins and Trent Windsor welcomed the opportunity to train with the junior high athletes.
“It makes me really happy to see that those junior high kids are out here trying,” Windsor said. “I’m out here to push them – make them better. The build of this program starts now, and I’m very happy I got to push them and get them ready for the upcoming years.”
Working with the junior high players made Gaskins a bit envious, he acknowledged.
