Big horses, bigger dreams
On a stretch of rolling farmland north of Hardin, a pair of towering draft horses and a flock of curious ostriches are the heart of a growing operation that started as nothing more than a dream.
Owners Cole Leaky and his wife Abby have transformed their passion for agriculture into a way of life that surprises nearly everyone who sees it.
“I just wanted to be different,” said Leaky. “All you see around here is cattle and row crops. I wanted to be big in something. Not to be better than anybody, but because I like to do things differently.”
Today, their farm is home to 17 Belgian draft horses and about 200 ostriches, a combination that has raised eyebrows and earned respect across the region. While the operation looks polished, it grew from small beginnings and a long stretch of hard work.
