That’s the only way I can explain why I’m glad July is finally here.
For much of my life, I haven’t been a huge fan of July. Other than July 3, the birthday of a nephew and my late father; and July 4, Independence Day, I could generally do without the seventh month of the year on our Gregorian calendar. July tends to have a sluggish feel, partly because of the lulls in the sports I cover and follow, partly because of the hot, muggy, strength-sapping weather. But in July 2025, it’s a thrill to be alive.
One reason it’s thrilling is because my body has healed enough from the trauma of hip replacement surgery that I can finally cover area sports in person again. For roughly two weeks after my surgery, I tried to rest as much as possible, and hobble…
