Soccer scrimmage sparks reflection, calls to action

SHAWN RONEY I’ve got soccer on the brain again, thanks in part to a recent assignment. In late May, I covered a soccer camp at Tiger Stadium in Excelsior Springs for our sister newspaper, The Excelsior Springs Standard. I interviewed Brett McKenzie, the Excelsior Springs varsity girls coach, who also has been Zac Ganzer’s assistant coach for the Excelsior Springs boys program. In addition, I interviewed two high school athletes – Brady Schoonover and Maddie Wenz. After conducting the interviews, I took some pictures of campers training and scrimmaging. A few of them were published June 27 in The Standard with some other summer training photos.
