Former pro lineman answers higher calling

From professional football to pastoral ministry, the new leader at Richmond United Methodist Church has followed a path shaped by faith, setbacks and opportunity.
Pastor Colin Brown, newly appointed to Richmond United Methodist Church, arrived with the strength of his six-foot-seven frame and a steady sense of purpose. Brown may be recognized for his time on the gridiron, but these days, his focus is on building community and following what he calls “the next step” in God’s plan.
Brown grew up in Braymer, where he played football, basketball, track and baseball throughout high school. Despite his love for basketball, football opened the most doors.
“My dad made me go back out for football,” stated Brown. “I tried quitting because basketball was what I wanted to do, but then I had better opportunities in football.”
Brown attended the University of Missouri as a walk-on, determined to prove himself. Within a week, he earned a scholarship. The experience became one…
