Orrick looks to establish youth football teams

Spurred by some divine guidance, two 8-man youth football teams are forming in Orrick. Led by Drew Schoeneck, plans are underway to form one team for third- and fourth-graders, and another for fifth- and sixth-graders. “If everything continues to go right, we’ll have a cheer squad for each,” said Schoeneck, who’ll also serve as a coach. As Monday, the program had 10 signups for the Grades 5-6 squad and five for the Grades 3-4 club, Schoeneck stated Monday via email. Registration for the two teams will conclude Aug. 1, with plans for practices to start that day, Schoeneck said. “You have to show up Aug. 1, paid in full, with a physical,” he said. The teams within the youth program will play a sevengame season, slated to start in September and conclude in October. Pending approval from the new superintendent of the Orrick R-XI School District, the youngsters will play their home games at Simmons Field, where Orrick’s junior high and high school 8-man teams play, Schoeneck said. …
