As temperatures climb and motorcycles reappear on Missouri roadways, one local motor officer is issuing a reminder that even the smallest oversight can turn deadly. From his seat on a police- issued motorcycle, Claycomo Police Department Sergeant and prevous Wood Heights Police Chief Jared Sartin has a front-row view of the risks riders face – and the behaviors that put them in danger. “Most people hardly ever check their mirrors until they want to change lanes,” said Sartin. “By checking your mirrors and surroundings regularly, you can be more aware of anything approaching you, especially from behind, that you might not expect otherwise.” Sartin’s own journey began with a dirt bike at the age of 12 and was shaped by childhood reruns of the 1970s TV series CHiPs, inspiring him to join law enforcement and eventually become a motorcycle officer.
