Raised-bed tips close out gardening series
Creative reuse and soil science blended together at the library’s final “Learn to Grow Your Food” session. The evening offered practical demonstrations, design tips and container gardening advice aimed at helping residents grow food in whatever space they have.
University of Missouri Extension horticulturist Todd Higgins returned to lead the workshop, guiding participants through a range of raised-bed techniques that can be adapted to backyards, patios and porches.
“Raised-bed gardening can be done in any type of manner that best suits your needs, budget and space you have available,” said Higgins. “The goal is to make gardening more fun and help you have more success with it, but it’s not without work.”
Throughout the evening, Higgins highlighted creative approaches to building raised beds, from reusing furniture frames to converting food-grade barrels, and offered tips to avoid common mistakes.
