Johnson tops school record at divisional meet

HIGGINSVILLE – Jacob Johnson continues to own the Richmond High School record in the boys triple jump. Competing on a chilly May 2 afternoon at Lafayette County of Higginsville at the Missouri River Valley Conference-East Division championships, Johnson broke his own record in the event with his winning leap of 14.1 meters. He set the old school record in 2023, Richmond coach David Rash stated Monday via email. “I’m really happy with hitting 14 today, especially with the weather conditions,” Johnson said. Johnson, who graduates Friday and has signed to compete in men’s track and field at Pittsburg (Kan.) State University, also won the long jump by leaping 6.33. He was the lone individual champion for the Richmond boys, who placed third in the team standings with 99 points. The guys won the 800- and 400-meter relays as well.
