High-speed pursuit, assault ends in arrest
A Liberty man has been arrested after being accused of beating his girlfriend and dragging her into a red Corvette before leading police on a high-speed chase that began in Excelsior Springs and continued deep into Ray County, where panicked 911 calls and a pursuit topping 115 miles per hour ended with his arrest.
Damon Hollis, 24, is facing four felonies, including first-degree kidnapping, facilitating a felony, inflicting injury or terrorizing; two counts of second-degree domestic assault; and aggravated fleeing of a stop or detention. Additionally, he is charged with three misdemeanors of exceeding the posted speed limit, failing to drive on the right half of the roadway and operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.
Hollis made his first court appearance this week before Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Lori J. Baskins.
Hollis entered a not-guilty plea to all the charges and was ordered to appear for a bond hearing at 8:30 a.m. on May 13.
