Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 84, a resident of Richmond, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025.

She was born Sept. 1, 1940, in Kansas City, the daughter of Lee and Fredia (Bowery) Hedrick.

In 1973, Elizabeth married Charles William Johnson. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by six sons, Kenneth Lackey, William Lackey, Steve Lackey, Eddie Lackey, Anthony Johnson and Doug Johnson; two daughters, Theresa Wagner and Lori Collins; two brothers, David Hedrick and Dennis Hedrick; one sister, Sharron Smith; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, including Liam Covey.

In addition to her husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; son, Matt Lackey; grandson, Edward Covey; and brother, Gene Hedrick.

Elizabeth was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. Her home was always a place of warmth and kindness, and her generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was offering a helping hand or a listening ear, Elizabeth had an open heart for everyone she encountered.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including playing bingo, trying her luck at the casino, hunting for morel mushrooms in the great outdoors and staying captivated by her favorite soap operas. Her vibrant personality and infectious laughter brought light to everyone around her.

Elizabeth’s love for her family and friends was unwavering, and her compassionate spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.

A visitation was scheduled for 10-11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
