Powell is ‘super-glad’ to be groundbreaking gymnast

Richmond senior Cobi Powell will soon be part of a small subgroup of college student athletes. As the Richmond News recently reported, Powell has signed her letter of intent to attend and compete in gymnastics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL). Affiliated with the NCAA in Division III, the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the university offers gymnastics as a women’s sport only, according to its website. “I visited La Crosse last summer for a gymnastics camp,” she said minutes after her April 3 signing ceremony in the Richmond High School gym. “I fell in love with the campus, the coaches and just everything their school had to offer.” The website roadtonationals.com listed and ranked all the NCAA-affiliated schools that offered women’s interscholastic gymnastics this year.
