Carol Hays

Carol Ann Hays, 81, of Richmond passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Valley Manner in Excelsior Springs. Carol was born Feb. 7, 1944, in Boston, the daughter of Wilfred and Annette (Fitzgerald) Ostiguy. She was united in marriage to Thomas L. Hays, on June 15, 1963, in Boston. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2003.

Survivors include her daughter, Robin D. (Ronnie) Russell of Richmond; and four sons, Thomas L. Hays of Warsaw, Timothy M. Hays of Richmond, Theodore J. (Christine) Hays of Kearney and Tyson F. Hays of Rushville. A brother, Gene Ostiguy of Lakewood, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Carol Ann was preceded in death her parents; husband; daughter, CarolAnn E. Hays; granddaughter, Pennie E. Russell; and sister, Annette Martin.

Carol was born and raised in Boston, and relocated in February 1974 with her family from Massachusetts to Missouri.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who took great pride in caring for her home and family. A talented crocheter, Carol lovingly created many beautiful blankets for her loved ones.

She enjoyed spending time at the lake, reading, playing cards and working in her garden — especially when surrounded by those she held dear.

The family suggests memorial contributions by made to the donor’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main Street; P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and memorial services were scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, at Thurman Funeral in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and services to follow at 2. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
